Ricoh puts tech innovation at the heart of exhibition for acclaimed photographer

Ricoh Europe, London, 07 June 2016 – Ricoh Europe will use its technology portfolio to bring to life a major retrospective of acclaimed British photographer Terence Donovan (1936-1996). Staged in partnership with and exhibited by The Photographers’ Gallery in London, Terence Donovan: Speed of Light is on display from 15 July to 25 September 2016.

The exhibition makes use of Ricoh projectors and Ricoh's award-winning Unified Communication System. The Ricoh Theta – the world’s first digital camera capable of taking fully spherical pictures – will form a key feature of the Ricoh imagine. change. Studio, where attendees can capture 360 degree self-portraits with a multi-coloured backdrop and interact with 360 degree imagery and video. Located on The Photographers’ Gallery Eranda floor, the studio forms a dedicated space for visitors to explore some of the techniques and styles employed by Donovan and use them as a springboard for creating their own images.

Throughout his career, Donovan used the phrase “Speed of light” to encapsulate the same drive and pace of change he expected of himself and others. As defined in its ‘imagine. change.’ brand, constant innovation sits at the heart of Ricoh’s business and is an essential component of its approach. Both the ‘imagine.change.’ philosophy and “Speed of Light” capture a sense of urgency and act as a call to action to challenge and unleash the creative potential in ourselves and others to drive innovation and forward-thinking, positive change.

Javier Diez-Aguirre, Vice President of Corporate Marketing, Ricoh Europe, said: “Ricoh is extremely proud to be working in partnership with The Photographers’ Gallery to celebrate the ground-breaking work of Terence Donovan through this major retrospective. As a global technology leader with a rich history in innovation, we pride ourselves on our use of imaginative thinking to drive positive change for the world we live and work in. Our involvement in this exhibition reflects a core belief in harnessing creativity and forms an integral part of our Ricoh imagine. change. Challenge programme, in which we challenge our employees and others to tap into their imaginative potential to inspire and drive change.”
