Company:
InsideData Group provides end to end business communication solutions, integrating print, online communications, and data driven services. Operating from Johannesburg and Cape Town, the company employs 150 people, works with more than 900 clients, and prints more than 270 million pages every year.
Challenge:
To maintain strong business performance, InsideData aimed to pivot away from the declining transactional print market, and to deliver more in demand services such as printing educational materials. To support the new business model, the company wanted a production solution that would enable printing onto a wide range of coated and uncoated media, and improve output quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Solution & Benefits:
To support the launch of new services, InsideData deployed the first RICOH Pro VC80000 digital inkjet printer in Africa, with integrated finishing solutions from Tecnau and Horizon. The company selected the printer for its ability to produce high volume, personalised output with outstanding quality and turnaround times.
The advanced automation and AI powered capabilities in the Pro VC80000 will enable InsideData to drive productivity and efficiency, printing at speeds up to 150 metres per minute (mpm), and achieving peak monthly volumes close to 40 million A4 images. The company can now expand its portfolio, offering educational and transactional materials, plus books, magazines, calendars and flyers on demand on a broad range of media.
Solutions & services provided
- RICOH Pro VC80000 high speed inkjet printer
- Ricoh Unwinder and Rewinder for reel to reel production
- Tecnau Revolution 50 and Horizon binder and trimmer

Alongside the print hardware, InsideData harnesses RICOH ProcessDirector™ to manage and streamline production workflows. The solution plays a critical role in coordinating incoming client orders through the company’s online storefront, and key prepress steps such as imposition.
“The Pro VC80000 is a strategic asset. It enhances our ability to deliver highly data driven printing at speed and scale. It reflects our long term commitment to innovation, automation, and understanding exactly what our clients need to stay competitive.”
