Hunkeler Innovationdays celebrated its 10th anniversary as Ricoh demonstrated its digital production printing portfolio. The event showcased important new print technology and solutions, particularly in the high speed inkjet category.
Traditionally attended by 'transactional' printers who specialise in high volume transactional documents like invoices and statements, HID 2013 saw a significant increase in commercial printer attendees, as advances in technology and quality bring graphic arts applications into scope.
Promoting "Print and Beyond", Ricoh unveiled for the first time in Europe our flagship InfoPrint 5000 GP printer with the Extended Media Dryer option. The printer supports a wide range of media, offering flexibility for book printing, direct mail and much more. On the showroom floor, the 5000GP printed colour schoolbooks from an Italian publisher, as well as direct mail pieces from a German client.

Visitors saw award-winning Ricoh hardware:
InfoPrint 5000 MP Monochrome – The 5000MP printed digital books, direct mail and transactional applications including some from a German insurance client. With a smaller footprint than the InfoPrint 5000 GP, the InfoPrint 5000 MP provides commercial and transactional printers with the ability to run monochrome books, statements, manuals and other documents now, with the option to convert to colour.
The Ricoh ProTM C901 Graphics Arts +, the new flagship of Ricoh's cutsheet production portfolio, was seen for the first time at an international exhibition, with marketing, direct mail and packaging applications that highlighted its outstanding digital colour production capabilities.
Visitors also saw live demonstrations of the following TotalFlow solutions:
- Ricoh ProcessDirector Express – This new addition to the Ricoh TotalFlow workflow suite offers customers an easy-to-use, end-to-end workflow solution to manage transactional datastreams in Adobe PDF format. 'Track and trace' was a highlight as the team demonstrated mailpiece tracking via Ricoh ProcessDirector Express with its Mailroom Integrity solution integrated with scanning technology.
TotalFlow Cadence – the single system workflow for ultra-short run book production was a show stopper for commercial printers and book manufacturers, who were able to see how it can automatically batch and gang books together based on specific criteria. The software provides automated tracking to meet job commitments and deadlines with proven integrity capabilities.
TotalFlow DocEnhancer - A plug-in for Adobe® Acrobat® X Pro, TotalFlow DocEnhancer enables printers to offer new services, such as document re-engineering and cross media marketing to satisfy clients who need to make last minute changes to PDF files as part of their Adobe PDF workflow process.
