Ricoh R1514 & R1515 Series – 50 mA & 150 mA Voltage Regulators with Wide Input Voltage Range & Low Supply Current

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, June 2007 – Ricoh Europe (Netherlands) B.V. announces the launch of the R1514 and R1515 voltage regulators with wide input voltage range and low supply current. These two new parts are a welcome addition to our product range targeted at industrial and automotive related applications that require a combination of high input voltage capability and a very low supply current. The R1514 and R1515 have a unique market position compared to competitive products.

Especially in automotive applications such as keyless entry, security, navigation systems or memory backup, which are to be active at all times, the supply current is an important feature in order to guarantee a long standby period of the battery. This industry strongly demands a minimal current consumption wherever possible. Thanks to our advanced CMOS technology, the bipolar R1514 and R1515 leave the competition far behind with a supply current of only 9 µA. It is obvious that due to the increasing integration level of electronics used in modern cars, this kind of products is rapidly becoming popular. The R1514 and R1515 are designed to survive in harsh conditions, like input voltages up to 36 V and peak input voltages up to 60 V with a duration of less than 200 ms. The operating temperature range for these products is extended from -40°C to +105°C, in contrast to our current products which are limited from -40°C to +85°C. As for protection, an embedded fold-back current limit circuit decreases the output current to approximately 45 mA in case of a peak current or short circuit, thus protecting the LDO and other electronic parts of the application from damage. In addition, a thermal protection circuit disables the voltage regulator when the temperature rises above 150°C and it is released again as soon as the temperature drops below 125°C. For stable operation, small capacitors with low ESR and a minimum value of 0.1 µF to 10 µF can be used. The R1514 and R1515 are available in SOT89-5 and HSOP-6J packages and they are convenient to use on high density and small circuit boards.
