Ricoh Introduces the Aficio™SP 8100DN, a New Printer for High Print Volumes and Dedicated Workgroups, Focused on Improving Efficiency

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, July 2006 -- Ricoh Europe B.V. launches the Aficio™SP 8100DN to meet the growing need for a multitasking, high volume printer. This new system is designed for black and white print production up to A3, but is also suitable for dedicated print jobs required by specific workgroups. Not only can it print at 45 pages per minute, even in full duplex, it also boasts a quick warm up time and high levels of security.

According to research analysts, growth in the standalone black and white printer market will take place among a new generation of lower cost, A4 printers*. Within this segment, the Aficio™SP 8100DN targets specific vertical markets for large in house print volumes where performance, reliability and Total Cost of Ownership are key decision criteria. In addition, it is designed for integration in dedicated environments for host printing, on-demand printing or central reprographics. The Aficio™SP 8100DN can be used as a dedicated resource in SAP®, IBM®, Unix and Sun Microsystems environments.

Multiple-user environments, such as front and back offices of large corporate departments, will also benefit from the Aficio™SP 8100DN’s fast output. Warm up time is 22 seconds and first print speed only 5.9 seconds. The icon based display panel ensures that any employee can use the printer without any training required. To further enhance productivity and ease of use, it can hold up to 3,550 sheets, while the engine’s proven reliability supports up to 250,000 pages per month.

"Until now, customers in the high volume printer segment could only choose between straightforward A4 monochrome laser printers and, if they were willing to pay more, a more highly featured A3 laser printer," says Valerie Croese, Product Manager at Ricoh Europe’s Marketing Department. "With the Aficio™SP 8100DN we are able to offer A3 high speed printing with extensive finishing capabilities and bring down overall printing costs at the same time. This provides a full featured, cost effective alternative in the market."

Ricoh also differentiates the Aficio™SP 8100DN from competitive models with its range of support for different networking protocols and features that reduce the network load. There is support for standards including Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and IEEE 802.11b (Wireless LAN). The large 40 GB hard disk drive of the Aficio™SP 8100DN allows documents to be stored in memory and printed whenever convenient. There is also a PDF Direct Print feature, which allows PDF printing without requiring a driver and therefore minimises network traffic.

Enhanced security capabilities are central to the design of the Aficio™SP 8100DN. Users can encrypt documents, implement authentication and watermark protection, and utilise the Data Overwrite Security unit.

The Aficio™SP 8100DN has also been designed with the environment in mind. It offers very low sound and emission levels, as well as low power consumption. Manufacturing is undertaken using only toxic free materials.

The Aficio™SP 8100DN is the latest addition to Ricoh's advanced range of digital office equipment. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world’s most extensive line-ups of printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
