Ricoh from start to finish at the marathon in Berlin on 23rd and 24th September 2006

Amstelveen, 1 September 2006 -- Continuing a “tradition”, Ricoh Europe B.V., the European headquarters of Ricoh Co. Ltd from Japan, has pledged its support for Berlin’s 2006 marathon. On September 23rd and 24th 2006, Berlin is the stage for one of the world’s leading marathons. As the official data supplier Ricoh takes care of the print, copy, fax and timing-service during the even. The continuation of the support for the marathon in Berlin is in line with Ricoh’s sponsoring vision, which focuses on human effort and stamina.

The 33rd edition of the marathon in Berlin has all elements for success. No less than 40,000 participants to the event will flock the streets of the German capital. Among those are some very powerful contestants for the first place. Haile Gebrselassie, the winner of the 2005-edition of the Amsterdam-marathon, has already vowed to run as fast as he can. One of his rivals is Sammy Korir. The Kenyan is the second fast marathon-runner ever and he won the 2006-edition of the Rotterdam-marathon. Among others, both will face competition from Juan Carlos de la Ossa. The bronze medallist at the recently held European Athletics Championships will make his debut in Berlin. The Japanese Olympic Champion and female winner of Berlin’s 2005-edition, Mizuki Noguchi, aims to repeat her victory.

With its impressive participant-list Berlin’s marathon has established its position as one of the leading marathons on the international running calendar.

In addition to the marathon in Berlin, Ricoh has also supported the marathons in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Stockholm (Sweden.) The marathon in Frankfurt (Germany) in October 2006, is also be sponsored by Ricoh.

Ricoh’s involvement in sports has a long history. Nowadays Ricoh also actively supports the European events of the ATP-masters series in tennis, as well as the Stella Artois Tennis Championships. As a worldwide company Ricoh has been involved in support of the Olympic Games in Lillehammer (Norway), Barcelona (Spain) and Albertville (France.) The company is also heavily involved in the FIS World Cup Ski Jump. In the field of athletics Ricoh has initiated the Ricoh Tour for indoor events. In addition the company has supported many athletic events in Europe.
