Ricoh Launches the Aficio™MP 5500, MP 6500 and MP 7500 Reinforcing its European #1 Position in the 48 – 89 pages per minute Black and White Multifunction Segment

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, April 2006 -- Ricoh Europe B.V. is launching the Aficio™MP 5500, MP 6500 and MP 7500. They provide industry leading print, scan and copy performance for mid sized and large office workgroups and low end reprographic environments respectively. Ricoh was the European market leader in the 48 – 89 pages per minute segment for black and white multifunctional products in 2005 (according to market research specialists InfoSource). The three new multifunction models are set to reinforce this position.

With these new models, Ricoh offers the unique capability to scan double-sided originals in one pass, while duplex output can be produced at simplex speeds. The warm up time is just 30 seconds, and 10 seconds from low power mode, with a first output speed of between 3.5 and 4.2 seconds. All can all hold up to 8,300 sheets, and paper can be replenished during production.

The Aficio™MP 5500 and MP 6500, which print and copy at 55 and 65 pages per minute respectively, meet the need for high productivity and user friendliness of mid sized and large office workgroups.  The Aficio™MP 7500, which prints and copies at 75 pages per minute, primarily aims at reprographic and production environments. Its distinctive design, featuring long life components and true 1,200 x 1,200 dpi print resolution, meets the highest reliability and quality needs in the high volume market. Professionally finished documents can be easily produced with high end stapling, punching, cover insertion, chaptering, booklet making and z-folding capabilities.

As information security is increasingly becoming a concern for IT managers the new systems offer the latest security features. These include user authentication possibilities and automatic data encryption. Ricoh's optional Data Overwrite Security Unit overwrites temporary data on the device hard drive preventing information leakage. Confidential documents can be protected against unauthorised copying through the unauthorised copy control unit.

Ricoh’s unique Embedded Software Architecture™ enables comprehensive integration with existing workflow systems as it allows for running customised applications on the Aficio™ hardware. Enterprise host printing connectivity for HPT, IBM® System i5™, UNIX/Linux and mySAP™ ERP is standard available.

Ricoh’s bundled document solutions allow users greater flexibility. For instance, the software enables the merger of documents in different formats into one file that can be managed and redistributed on the document server. Cost saving options include automatic routing of print jobs to the most cost effective printing system and cost allocation.

Jesse Lennards, Product manager at Ricoh Europe B.V.: “With this launch we aim to consolidate and expand our position as the no. 1 manufacturer of black and white multifunctional systems for workgroup and professional use. By offering extensive host printing capabilities we cater for the high volume printing needs of existing and new customers.” He clarifies: “Compared to host printing systems in this market segment we provide superior productivity, low Total Cost of Ownership TCO and low Cost Per Print (CPP), as well as a space saving design. In addition we offer our customers unique capabilities. Our range of professional finishing options is unmatched in this category. Additionally, with all three models customers have the most extensive possibilities to tailor the devices to their specific workflow with the Java™ based Software Development Kit. “

Environmental issues are central to the design of all of Ricoh’s products. Toxic free materials are used anticipating the EU ‘Restriction of Hazardous Substances’ (ROHS) directive. There is also low ozone and noise emission, and low energy consumption.

The Aficio™MP 5500, 6500 and 7500 are the latest additions to Ricoh's advanced range of digital office equipment. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world’s most extensive line ups of printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
