Aficio™AP900 – Reliable, Secure and Economic Resource for High Volume and Host Printing

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, May 2005 -- Ricoh Europe B.V. today announced the introduction of its new Aficio™AP900 laser printer. Geared for high volume, high frequency print runs and a duty cycle of 300,000 prints a month, it offers 75 ppm on simplex and duplex format. This solidly robust and reliable unit also features low supplies consumption and an impressively low cost per print. Targeting host printing environments as well as central repro departments and the print for pay sector, the Aficio™AP900 boasts a long and impressive design pedigree.

To ensure low cost reliability and ease of use are at the top of the benefit list, the Aficio™AP900 uses the same technology that has made Ricoh a market leader in office automation and the digital high volume segment. With a generous 8,300 sheet capacity, handling of A6 to A3 paper from 52 to 216 g/m², high speed duplexing and customisable finishing options, this unit caters for all high volume needs. An optional interposer allows the easy addition of attractive document covers. Its productivity and low cost profile mean it is an ideal unit on its own or as back-up in a repro centre.

With its extensive security features, the unit is ideal for high volume sensitive material printers such as banks, governments and insurance organisations. The optional network data protection unit and Internet Protocol Printing (IPP) facility offer full protection, authentication and encryption, locally and at distance. LockedPrint™ prevents unauthorised duplication and holds jobs with sensitive information in memory until released.

Convenience of use is accentuated by a clear intuitive display as well as a ‘patrol light’ that allows for job status monitoring from across the office. SmartDeviceMonitor™ means progress monitoring from a PC. There are numerous other network facilities. Connectivity is naturally up to the latest standards including Wireless LAN and USB 2.0. Document management and monitoring facilities are excellent with a bundled software suite and optional utilities.

The Aficio™AP900 is backed by Ricoh Developer Program™ and its Embedded Software Architecture™, allowing for independent development of customised software to run on this unit for client specific key solutions. External options include a series of devices to ease finishing such as a jogger unit for the staple finisher, punch units, a cover interposer and a tab sheet unit.

Tirtza Richartz, product manager at Ricoh Europe, expresses her sentiments: “The Aficio™AP900 has been designed for heavy duty and stress-free operation. We are confident that the AP900 will be an effective alternative with very competitive acquisition and operating costs compared to the conventional high volume engines.”

The Aficio™AP900 is the latest addition to Ricoh's range of printers. The company currently manufactures one of the world's most extensive line-ups of copiers, printers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
