EncryptEase™ – Protect your Data with the Hybrid Security CD-R

Amstelveen, the Netherlands, December 2005 -- Ricoh Europe B.V. EPMMC today announced the introduction of its newly developed “EncryptEase™” data security concept, an intelligent CD-R disc which uses a unique hybrid CD-R technology. This innovative CD-R combines both ROM area and write once recordable area in one disc. The CD-R section is used to encrypt data and record it. By setting a password safe data storage, management and offline-distribution of sensible contents is ensured.

“EncryptEase™” uses the unique Ricoh hybrid CD-R technology. This means using the same input and retrieval functions as a conventional CD-R, but storing a pre-recorded encryption application in the ROM section and using the recordable section for writing user data.

Data is automatically encrypted and stored in the CD-R section of this disc, and can only be decrypted and retrieved with a password set by the user, thus ensuring a high level of security. This simple and easy to use function allows important data to be stored, archived and safely distributed off-line.

This hybrid CD-R technology is perfect for both commercial and consumer applications. For commercial applications it is critical to protect sensitive data for offline distribution. For consumer applications simple and easy operation is required to protect private data such as bank details, passwords etc. Encoding/decoding, data compression, writing and copy-guard functions are pre-installed in the ROM section, so there is no user action needed to install any additional software or hardware.

A new colour coded logo has been created which will immediately identify Ricoh’s “RR” products. The “RR” represents Ricoh’s hybrid CD-R product family and stands for the combination of both the CD-ROM and CD-R section in just one disc. Looking at the logo the blue colour stands for IT applications and the colour orange for entertainment applications. These will appear on all product packages launched in the future. “EncryptEase™” is the first product addressing to IT applications.

The Ricoh high security data storage “EncryptEase™“ hybrid CD-R comes in a JewelCase and is expected to be available on the European market at the end of December 2005. Recommend selling price will be 6 Euro plus VAT. Being a multisession CD-R “EncryptEase™” allows adding data up to 20 times. A tab is attached to each addition, making data management easy.
