Ricoh R1171x – 1,500 mA/2,000 mA High Output Current LDO | Ricoh Europe: copiers, photocopiers, printers, gelsprinters, multifunctional printers

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, December, 2005 -- Ricoh Europe B.V., the European Headquarters of Ricoh Company Ltd., Tokyo, announces the launch of R1171x high output current LDO with remarkable fast transient response performance. This new part is the most powerful LDO in our product range so far and is available in a fixed output voltage version only. Two different high wattage packages can be selected depending on the purpose of the application or preferred output current.

The typical fast transient response features of the LDO minimise any output voltage overshoot or ringing to a minimum and provide a reliable and very stable output voltage. R1171x is designed to be used as a high current voltage supply for noise sensitive applications with RF circuits or as a DSP processor core voltage supply for example. In terms of on-resistance/dropout voltage value this new LDO has an excellent performance, only 300 mΩ on-resistance respectively 90 mV dropout voltage at 300 mA output current. The R1171x operates in an input voltage range from 2.1 V to 6.0 V, suitable for many battery operated devices.

The new CMOS based LDO offers high ripple rejection performance of 65 dB in combination with a low supply current level of 130 µA, leaving similar competitive parts far behind, as well as for supply current in standby mode. Various protection features are embedded, protecting the LDO and other electronic parts of the application from damage or hazardous events. A fold-back current limit circuit decreases the output current in case of a short circuit approximately to 200 mA, a thermal protection disables the LDO above 150°C and prevents from overheating. Two high wattage packages are available and offer two product versions each, the choice depends on the preference for the maximum output current and for a specific CE pin active level.
