Ricoh Aficio™FX16 - Desktop A4 Copy/Print/Fax and Colour Scan Capability Gives New Meaning to the Compact All-in-one Concept

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, May 2004 -- Leading office equipment manufacturer Ricoh today announced the introduction of its Aficio™FX16 desktop A4 all-in-one copier/printer/scanner/fax targeting small(er) office users. The Aficio™FX16 comes standard with integrated printer and fax modules, colour scanning and an all-in-one consumables cartridge. Scan to e-mail and high speed faxing allow for efficient communication and despite its small footprint, operation is straightforward. A unique feature is the support of heavy paper types.

This lightweight single configuration, single cartridge unit offers plug and play convenience and 16 ppm output. Warm up time is 42 seconds and first output speed is 12 seconds. Its small footprint and low noise emission means it can be conveniently sited on desk. Both input and output trays are internal, the bypass tray uniquely taking paper up to 163 g/m2.

The operating panel of the Aficio™FX16 is, as with the larger AficioT multifunctional systems, intuitive and allows job programming in seconds, so fast familiarity for new users. The copy and fax functions and machine status are clearly shown on the operation panel's display. The machine's 600 dpi resolution and 'scan once, copy many' technology means consistent high quality output even for non-standard originals. The standard 8 MB printer memory provides generous document memory storage.

Jeroen van Beem, product manager at Ricoh Europe B.V., is proud of this small but powerful package, "The designers succeeded in putting huge functionality in a small box but without compromising its reliability and efficiency. I am convinced the FX16's all-in-one character and tight pricing will particularly attract users seeking competitive high output, quality and simplicity of operation."

The Aficio™FX16's standard 24 bit scanner and embedded TWAIN driver allows the user to scan B/W and colour originals directly to the PC. Books and magazines can be scanned directly from the platen glass. The device comes standard with a 30-sheet automatic document feeder for easy processing or multiple originals. The 33.6 Kbps modem and high engine speed mean the Aficio™FX16 handles outgoing faxes fast. Parallel operations can be easily processed from memory further raising efficiency and convenience.

Even with this amount of functionalities in a small volume, maintaining the FX16 is simple and undemanding. The single cartridge is user replaceable and allows work to continue almost uninterrupted. The environmental loading of the Aficio™FX16 is minor with low energy requirement, minimised ozone and noise output, and automatic trip to energy saving mode after a short time of inactivity.

The Aficio™FX16 is the smallest multifunctional system in Ricoh's advanced range of networked MFPs, most of which combine digital copying, printing, scanning and faxing functions with document management and comprehensive finishing. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world's most extensive line ups of printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
