Ricoh's Wide Format Aficio™240W Offers New Standard in Compact, 600 dpi AO-A4 Copy, Print and Scan

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, May 2004 -- -- Office equipment manufacturer Ricoh, today announced the introduction of its Aficio™240W, a modular, wide format copier/printer/scanner. Target users of this entry level system include both drawing office, print for pay professionals and operations traditionally outsourcing large format work. The Aficio™240W is the world's most compact device of its type, offering user friendly operation, true 600 dpi in- and output quality and 3.6 m/min output speed. Operation is undemanding - the control panel is self guiding and paper setting straightforward.

Ricoh designed the Aficio™240W for a wide spectrum of users of large format documents. The machine's small size and full front operation mean its positioning in the office is forgiving. This attractive and quiet machine can be sited anywhere, even next to a wall or desk. In addition to its small footprint, it offers low noise, high quality and cost effective reliability.

As all Ricoh products, the LCD control panel is clear, intuitive and user friendly. The Aficio™240W is one of the few machines, and certainly the only compact, that can handle all common paper sizes. It is capable of processing A4 to 914 mm width. Users can choose from up to four media sources from two rolls, a bypass tray and a 250-sheet A4/A3 paper cassette. Changing rolls is easy with Ricoh's special clamp system. The Aficio™240W's digital features also allow the user to reproduce A0 originals on A4 format and vice versa.

Warm up time is under two minutes and first A1 output is ready in less than 22 seconds. Thanks to a 600 dpi resolution and 256 gray scales for copying, printing and scanning, edge to edge output quality is unsurpassed and constant across extended runs. Solid fills are deep black, lines fine and crisp and halftones smooth.

Traditional document management of large format drawings used to be a voracious space and time consuming function. The Aficio™240W's document management system has been designed to make the drawing office environment more efficient. With the optional controller, the Aficio™240W incorporates a print, copy and scan capability in one design thus avoiding the need for separate plotter and copier. Network connectivity is broad, the unit being able to print from any type of computer or platform and from applications as diverse as AutoCAD®, Windows®, Bentley® and Web Client Software is fully integrated.

Scanning offers the option of storing old, sometimes irreplaceable documents in digital format to protect originals while simultaneously offering fast document recall. Multiple drawings are scanned only once and can be stored or printed from memory in as many collated sets as required.

Gerard de Pender, product manager at Ricoh Europe B.V.: "Traditionally, wide format input and output devices are bulky and space consuming, making it difficult to place them close to users. Attacking this customer problem, our designers succeeded in integrating print, copy and scan functionality in the most compact wide format system around. Despite its compactness and supreme output quality, the Aficio™240W has an entry level price tag, which makes it a real masterpiece."

In accordance with Ricoh's group policy the Aficio™240W was designed to offer minimum environmental loading. Minimal ozone, noise and heat output relieve the work domain. All plastic parts have been clearly labeled for recycling convenience.

As the most recent addition to Ricoh's extensive range of digital office printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional products, the Aficio™240W will surely make a solid contribution to the challenge of wide format document handling.
