Ricoh Introduces GBC StreamPunch™ - One of the World's First Online Die Punches for Multifunctional High Volume Systems

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, July 2004 -- Leading office automation manufacturer Ricoh today announced the introduction of GBC StreamPunch™, one of the world's first interchangeable die punch units for high volume multifunctional systems. The StreamPunchT was developed for Ricoh by General Binding Corporation (GBC), the world's leading manufacturer of document binding systems. The GBC StreamPunchT offers CRD and high volume professionals a unique solution to produce online punched documents matching a variety of different binding styles. In total 5 binding styles are supported, including traditional 2 and 4 holes as well as market standard WireBind™, CombBind™, VeloBind® and ColorCoil™. Previously, the production of such documents was only possible with very labor intensive manual punch operations.

With the GBC StreamPunch™, production of ready-to-bind documents becomes part of an online punching and printing process. The GBC StreamPunch™ can be connected to the Ricoh Aficio™2105, Aficio™2090, Aficio™1075 and Aficio™1060, which are all designed to operate at ideal speeds for production environments. The cost effectiveness of the GBC StreamPunch™ provides fast return on investment while adding truly added value.

Operation is simple, allowing the end user to activate StreamPunch™ through the touch of a button, producing perfectly punched documents, ready for binding. The punch process is automatic, enabling the Ricoh system to maintain speeds of up to 105 pages per minute. Until now, end users in many commercial and CRD environments had to punch documents manually, hand loading each individual lift of paper into an offline punch.

"The StreamPunch™ delivers what customers want: technology that makes binding easier. It eliminates the manual part of the punching process, which is time consuming and leaves room for error," said Marcel Maspaitella, Product Manager Professional Copier at Ricoh Europe B.V. "We are excited to introduce one of the world's first cost effective online interchangeable die punch for our Aficio™ high volume systems in Europe," he continued. "The GBC StreamPunch™ supports our strategy to increase our line up of professional finishing solutions for reprographic environments. This new offering is clearly a differentiator in the high volume production market."

"GBC is a world leader in many of our binding categories and we are pleased to work with an industry leader such as Ricoh in the digital imaging marketplace," said Rick McCallion, vice-president of Product Technology and Partnering for GBC's Industrial and Print Finishing Group. GBC is a world leader in many of our binding categories, and the Ricoh and GBC brands have always been associated with innovation and quality worldwide."

Ricoh currently manufactures one of the most extensive line ups of copiers, printers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions. The GBC StreamPunch™ is the latest addition to Ricoh's high volume line up. The recent launch of other innovative finishing solutions, such as the booklet maker SR90+, have further enhanced Ricoh's position in the high volume market.
