| | | Ricoh R1162x - 150 mA LDO Featuring Power Save Mode
|
| | Amstelveen, The Netherlands, July 2004 -- Ricoh Europe B.V., the European headquarters of Ricoh Company Ltd., Tokyo, announces the launch of R1162x LDO regulator. Ricoh R1162x acts as a high speed and low power LDO, featuring a special energy saving mode in addition to fast mode. When a system requires only a small output current, for example when on standby, R1162x can be switched to low power mode consuming only 5.5 µA. Ricoh R1162x is available in SOT23-5 package and in a tiny, 69% smaller SON1612-6 package consuming only 2.56 mm² of PCB area. The combination of these features makes R1162x an attractive LDO for battery operated applications. |
Ricoh recognised a market demand for a product that can act as a high speed and a low power LDO. R1162x has two operational modes: low power mode and fast mode. Its fast mode has a consumption current of typical 70 µA with a ripple rejection of 70 dB (at f = 1 kHz). When the system requires only a small output current, or low ripple rejection, R1162x can be switched to low power mode consuming only 5.5 µA, which is more than 12 times less than on fast mode, keeping its output voltage. This energy saving mode is especially advantageous to systems that have Off, Standby and Normal mode, such as mobile phones. R1162x comes in two package types: in an industry standard SOT23-5 (W 2.8 x L 2.9 x H 1.1 mm), and in a tiny SON1612-6 (W 1.6 x L 1.6 x H 0.6 mm), which is 69% smaller than SOT23-5 and consumes only 2.56 mm² of critical PCB area. SOT23-5 pin configuration is industry standard with the exception of the ECO pin™. In addition, R1162x works with small ceramic capacitors of minimum 0.47 µF. The designer can choose an output voltage between 1.5 V and 4.0 V in 0.1 V steps or an output of 1.85 V or 2.85 V. An optional feature in R1162x is an auto discharge function that rapidly discharges the output capacitor once the chip is in standby mode. The product has a maximum output current of 150 mA.
