Ricoh Aficio™2035e and Aficio™2045e - Advanced New Generation Document Managers

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, February 2004 -- Ricoh, the leading Office Automation manufacturer announces the launch of two advanced multifunctional products (MFPs): the Aficio™2035e and Aficio™2045e. These user oriented systems offer printing, copying, scanning, faxing and finishing options in one single cost efficient device. Ricoh equipped both new models with advanced communication features such as 'scan to e-mail' via LDAP, 'scan to folder', Internet fax and paperless faxing and automatic fax forwarding via e-mail. With web based software, document management tools, security features and all-encompassing connectivity options, these units take office automation to the next level.

Apart from delivering impressive output speeds at 35/45 ppm and impeccable output quality, the Aficio™2035e and Aficio™2045e are designed to simplify digitisation. Thanks to the advanced technology, scanned documents can be easily stored on the integrated document server, sent to any PC in the network or even to designated folders in various formats (PDF, TIFF, JPEG).

Without the need for a designated server or extra software, 'scan to e-mail' enables users to send documents directly from the control panel to multiple recipients. It provides a fast, easy and cost effective alternative to international faxing. By using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) technology, the Aficio™2035e and Aficio™2045e automatically update themselves with the latest e-mail addresses on the corporate mail server. IT managers will appreciate the fact that configuring individual machines is no longer necessary thanks to the LDAP technology. Safe communication is guaranteed by the client folder protection function, which prevents unauthorised users from sending documents.

The 'scan to folder' feature enables large documents to be transferred directly to a specified network folder or FTP server. This saves time, helps to reduce e-mail traffic and ensures secure distribution of files. The unique touch screen control panel with icon based menu guides users through the scanning functions intuitively.

The paperless fax feature stores incoming faxes into memory without the requirement of an additional server. Using the standard software, faxes can be easily viewed, printed, forwarded to another user via e-mail (using LDAP), deleted or downloaded onto any PC. This allows for easy distribution, even to laptop users outside the office. Saving time and paper, this feature streamlines the document distribution process. Additionally, with the LAN fax feature, users can send their faxes directly from their PC

"With the launch of the Aficio™2035e and Aficio™2045e we offer the most complete package around, undoubtedly including the broadest choice of communication functionalities available," explains Tessa den Hartog, product manager at Ricoh Europe B.V. "By introducing the latest network scanning features, Ricoh aims to meet the growing demand for advanced communication hubs. I am confident that by doing so we will expand our position as market leader in this field."

The Aficio™2035e and Aficio™2045e integrate with virtually any network and offer optional USB2.0, Wireless LAN and Bluetooth connectivity. Both units come with a comprehensive software suite and web based management utilities to benefit both users and administrators. DeskTopBinder™ V2 Lite allows for managing files and merging different formats into one file. With Web SmartDeviceMonitor™, monitoring the status of networked peripherals is easy. In addition, administrators can set user privileges, obtain complete statistics or restrict usage if required with SmartDeviceMonitor™ for Admin.

With Web Image Monitor any user can check paper and toner levels, as well as the job status, without leaving their desks. At the same time they can view, re-organise, print or download documents stored on the document server within the device, such as frequently used templates and forms. This eliminates hardcopy storage, minimises the number of files on local PCs and eases traffic on the network. Easily accessed through a standard web browser, Web Image Monitor allows the IT Manager to monitor and change network settings from the comfort of his PC. This embedded software tool does not require any installation of additional software onto every PC on the network reducing the IT department's workload.

Both models include Ricoh's unique advance print features, such as Locked Print™ for confidential printing, Sample Print™ for easy proof reading and the one click print technology RPCS™. To create professional looking double sided business documents offices have a wide choice of paper handling options, including a booklet finisher, a 2,500-sheet and a 1,000-sheet finisher.

The Aficio™2035e and Aficio™2045e are the latest additions to Ricoh's advanced range of networked MFPs that combine digital copying, printing, scanning and faxing functions with document management and comprehensive finishing. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the most extensive line ups of printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
