New Aficio™2051/2060 and Aficio™2075 Affirm Ricoh's Leading Position in Multifunctional Document Production and Management

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, December 2004 -- Leading office automation equipment manufacturer Ricoh today announced the introduction of its Aficio™2051/2060 and Aficio™2075 multifunctional document management systems. The Aficio™2051 and Aficio™2060 target demanding offices, while the Aficio™2075 specifically aims at the reprographic environment. The three models represent complete and cost effective units with extensive options far beyond the functions of basic printing, copying and scanning. These powerful platforms offer speed, quality output, operational convenience and seamless integration with existing network structures. In addition, they support customised applications and advanced security features. As such, they have been designed to form the heart of an organisation's document management workflow.

The Aficio™2051/2060 and Aficio™2075 offer copying and printing speeds of 51, 60 and 75 pages per minute, while both single and double-sided documents are scanned at 75 pages per minute. With functionality beyond what is normally expected in their class, all three units boast a recordbreaking warm up time of a tight 30 seconds and true 1,200 x 1,200 dpi printing resolution. The maximum paper input capacity is 8,300 sheets.

These multifunctional products (MFPs) are the first to feature Ricoh’s new Embedded Software Architecture™ – a Java™ technology compatible platform that allows the design of customised key applications. In support Ricoh will launch a special Software Developer web portal by the end of November 2004. Subscribers will have access to Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Software Development Kits (SDKs) and other support tools and services for the development of dedicated software.

A wealth of finishing capabilities is on offer. Besides a standard capability of cover and chapter sheet insertion, output options include 50 and 100 sheet staplers/sorters and a 60-page office booklet maker, all with optional punching. A mailbox with 9 separate output trays and Ricoh’s new Z-folder for automatic insertion of A4 output into A5 documents are available. As of next month, the range of extensions will be completed with a professional 100-page booklet maker with optional square-back folding and trimming and an online high end punching unit.

The Aficio™2051/2060 and Aficio™2075 connect to all major network environments and can be configured to handle a wide variety of mainframe print data streams. Users can easily scan and send documents to e-mail addresses using the network address book via LDAP.   Distribution via personal or shared network folders (via SMB), or web publishing (via FTP) is straightforward as well. The bundled software suite includes Web Image Monitor providing document management, central device configuration and user access management via a common web browser. Additionally DeskTopBinder™ software is a user friendly portal for archiving, retrieval and compilation of separate files into single documents. Software options too numerous to list in their entirety include SAP® R/3® host printing, document management and job routing software, such as doc-Q-route and doc-Q-manager, and Equitrac Office™ print and copy cost control.

With security becoming an increasingly sensitive issue in today’s digital information networks, document protection has been given high billing. All data communication to and from these new Aficio™ systems can be encrypted and handled through secure network protocols. Ricoh’s Data Overwrite Security Unit automatically overwrites all temporary data on the hard disk beyond recovery upon job completion. All data can be permanently erased when the machine is moved or disposed of. Using the existing Windows® authentication infrastructure, different administrators can be assigned to centrally manage access to specific machine functions or documents stored in the device. LDAP implementation prevents documents from being sent to e-mail addresses other than those registered in the company address book. In addition, the Locked Print™ function holds confidential documents in memory until they are unlocked at the operation panel by entering an approved ID number.

Jos Verheijen, Product Manager at Ricoh’s European Marketing Group is convinced of the units’ capabilities: “Notwithstanding the complex nature of document management and data protection in workgroup and reprographic environments, our designers have been able to cover all customer demands with these new platforms. In medium and large offices, they will handle document workflows that are usually spread across large arrays of expensive, smaller and decentralised devices,” he explains. “We have every confidence their connectivity, manageability and productivity will impress IT managers, office and facility managers and repro specialists alike.”

The Aficio™2051/2060 and Aficio™ 2075 are the latest additions to Ricoh’s leading MFP range, set to further expand the company’s position in the mid and high volume office workgroup and reprographic segments. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world’s most extensive line ups of copiers, printers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices as well as associated advanced software solutions.
