| | | Ricoh 1161N/D - 300 mA LDO Featuring Power Save Mode and the Industry's Lowest Minimum Operating Voltage & Output Voltage
|
| | Amstelveen, The Netherlands, October 9, 2003 -- Ricoh Europe B.V., the European headquarters of Ricoh Company Ltd., Tokyo, announces the launch of the R1161N/D voltage regulator. The Ricoh R1161N/D acts as a high speed and low power LDO, featuring a special energy saving mode in addition to fast mode. When a system requires only a small output current, for example when on standby, the R1161N/D can be switched to low power mode consuming only 4.5 µA. The R1161N/D supports both extremely low minimum operating voltage of 1.4 V and minimum output voltage of 0.8 V. The combination of these features makes the R1161N/D a unique and an attractive LDO for battery operated applications. |
Ricoh recognised a market demand for a product that can act as a high speed and a low power LDO. The R1161N/D has two modes: low power mode and fast mode. Its fast mode has a consumption current of 60 µA with a ripple rejection of 65 dB (at 1 kHz). When the system requires only a small output current, or low ripple rejection, the R1161N/D can be switched to low power mode consuming only 4.5 µA, which is more than 13 times less than on fast mode, keeping its output voltage. This energy saving mode is especially advantageous to systems that have off/standby and normal mode, such as mobile phones. The R1161N/D has the industry's lowest minimum output voltage of 0.8 V supporting the latest digital LSIs made by high density semiconductor process. Minimum operating voltage of 1.4 V allows the user to design a system that uses for instance a DC/DC converter from 3.6 V to 1.8 V and the R1161 from 1.8 V to 1.5 V. The R1161N/D's low dropout voltage of 0.23 V on fast mode and 0.24 V on low power mode (both at an output current of 300 mA) make it possible to use the battery to its lowest level. The R1161 comes in three package types: industry standard SOT23-5 (2.8 x 2.9 x 1.1 mm), small SON6 (3.0 x 1.6 x 0.8 mm) and high wattage HSON6 (3.0 x 2.9 x 0.9 mm). SOT23-5 pin configuration is industry standard with the exception of the ECO pin™. Maximum output current is 300 mA.
