Ricoh R1180N/Q - 150 mA LDO Regulator with Ultra Low Supply Current

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, July 15, 2003 -- Ricoh Europe B.V., the European headquarters of Ricoh Company Ltd., Tokyo, announces the launch of the R1180N/Q voltage regulator. The Ricoh R1180N/Q features an ultra low supply current of 1 µA and a low drop out voltage of 0.25 V at lout 150 mA. This combination of features is necessary to meet the demand for creating low power consuming applications used for battery-powered equipment. The R1180N/Q supports low output voltages from 1.2 V and has a fold back current limit protection. The product can use small ceramic capacitors minimum of 0.1 µF saving board space as well as production costs. The R1180N/Q has a maximum output current of 150 mA. The R1180N comes in a SOT-23-5 package and the R1180Q in a SC82-AB package.

The Ricoh R1180N/Q is a CMOS-based voltage regulator IC with an extremely low supply current of 1 uA and a low dropout voltage (Low ON-resistance) of 0.25 V at Iout 150 mA. This combination of features fills a gap in the market, which allows designers to create low power consuming applications for battery-powered equipment such as cameras, VCRs and camcorders.

The Ricoh R1180N/Q supports low output voltages from 1.2 V that are required for new generation CPUs or DSPs. Space-saving and cost-reducing ceramic capacitors of minimum 0.1 µF are recommended to use together with the Ricoh R1180N/Q. In addition, the R1180N/Q has Fold Back Current Limit Protection that is designed against destruction caused by excess current.

The Ricoh R1180N/Q comes in two versions: the B Version with Chip Enable Pin to provide ON/OFF function and the C version without Chip Enable Pin. The B version has an extremely low standby supply current of 0.1 µA.

The R1180N Series are packaged in SOT-23-5 measuring 2.8 x 2.9 x 1.1 mm and the R1180Q series are packaged in SC82AB measuring 2.1 x 2.0 x 0.9 mm. These package types allow high density mounting of the ICs on boards.
