Ricoh R2051S - 2 Wire I2C Interface Real Time Clock IC with Internal Battery Back-Up Switch Over Circuit Featuring Low Time Keeping Voltage and Consumption Current

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, July 15, 2003 -- Ricoh Europe B.V., the European headquarters of Ricoh Company Ltd., Tokyo, announces the launch of the R2051S Real Time Clock IC (RTC). The Ricoh R2051S's embedded battery backup switchover circuit and its capability to use various batteries as its backup battery make the RTC solution very flexible to its user. Low time keeping voltage and low power consumption ensure maximised battery backup life. The Ricoh R2051S comes in an easy to handle SSOP 16 package. The RTC solution is ideal for applications such as set top boxes and power metres. The R2051 series is also available in a tiny FFP 12 package measuring only 2 x 2 x 0.85 mm, ideal for portable applications.

The Ricoh R2051S facilitates the design process due to its embedded battery backup circuit. Its built-in voltage detector monitors the main power source switching over to a primary or secondary backup battery sending a reset signal to the CPU whenever the main voltage drops below a certain level. Flexibility is given to the designer as the product can use both primary and secondary batteries and even double layer and aluminium capacitors as its backup battery. The combination of the R2051S's exceptionally low power consumption of typical 0.4 µA and its low time keeping voltage of typical 0.75 V extends valuable battery backup life to the maximum. The R2051S comes in an easy to handle SSOP 16 package (measuring 5.0 x 6.4 x 1.25 mm).

The R2051S comes with a time trimming function for oscillator adjustment. In addition, the time trimming function can also be set for seasonal or temperature adjustments. The designer can choose from two different oscillator adjustment ranges: fine mode with ± 0.5 ppm, or wide mode with ±1.5 ppm

The product also comes in a tiny FFP package, the R2051K, that measures only 2 x 2 x 0.85 mm.
