1959 - 1971: New Technologies and Overseas Expansion

During this period, Ricoh introduced a host of new products featuring innovative technologies, started looking into the possibilities for digital technologies, and moved into overseas markets.
 

Jul. 1960 Sindo Koeki., Ltd. in Korea (name changed to Sindo Ricoh Co., Ltd. in 1970).

Aug. 1960 Introduces the RICOH OFFESET duplicator, leading to low-cost high-volume copying in the office.

May 1961 Osaka Plant opened in Ikeda, Osaka, to manufacture sensitized paper.

Apr. 1962 Completed Numazu Plant, which features world's first fully integrated sensitized paper production system.

May 1962 Ohmori Plant and General Research Laboratory completed. 


Dec. 1962 Founded overseas subsidiary Ricoh Industries, U.S.A., Inc.(until 1970).

Apr. 1963 Changes corporate name to Ricoh Company, Ltd. 


Apr. 1963 Founded overseas subsidiary Ricoh (Europe) S.A. in Switzerland.(until 1971).

Mar. 1965 Founded manufacturing subsidiary Taiwan Ricoh Co., Ltd. in Taiwan.

Jul. 1967 Founded Tohoku Ricoh Co., Ltd. in Miyagi Prefecture.

Oct. 1967 Founded Sohka Ricoh Co., Ltd. in Saitama Prefecture (name changed to Ricoh Tokki Co., Ltd. in Jan. 1972, and to Ricoh Unitechno Co., Ltd. in Apr. 1990).

Dec. 16, 1968 Founder and President Kiyoshi Ichimura passed away. 


Jan. 30, 1969 Mikio Tatebayashi appointed president (until Oct. 22, 1976). 


Jan. 1970 Founded Ricoh of America, Inc. in New Jersey (until 1984), wholly owned subsidiary established through integration of New York office and Ricoh Industries U.S.A., Inc. 


Mar. 1970 Ricoh Pavilion appears at Japan Expo '70 with theme "Better Vision for Humanity".

May 1971 Founded Atsugi Plant as key manufacturing base for business machines and communication and information systems.

Apr. 1971 Introduces the RICOM 8, the Company's first office computer. 


Nov. 1971 Implements Total Quality Control campaign company wide to reinforce operations.

Nov. 1971 Founded overseas subsidiary Ricoh Nederland B.V. in Holland (name changed to Ricoh Europe B.V. in Jul. 1986).
