History

With a tradition of almost seventy years of technological innovation, Ricoh is harnessing the whole range of its optical, imaging and digital technologies to create a 21st-century office environment in which all imaging processes merge and function smoothly.

1936 - 1945: Starting Out




Ricoh Company, Ltd., was established in 1936 as Riken Kankoshi Co., Ltd. to manufacture and market diazo positive sensitized paper.

1946 - 1958: Post War Development




Ricoh introduces mass production technologies to camera production and markets the best-selling RICOHFLEX III. Building on its optical and sensitized paper technologies, Ricoh introduces its first copier, thus adding a new dimension to the company.

1959 - 1971: New Technologies and Overseas Expansion




During this period, Ricoh introduced a host of new products featuring innovative technologies, started looking into the possibilities for digital technologies, and moved into overseas markets.

1972 - 1979: The Birth of Office Automation




Pushing on with its digital technologies, Ricoh introduced the world's first office fax machine and started developing digital copiers.

Ricoh starts the shift from analog to digital copiers, thus heralding the start of the networked office.

2000 - present: The Document Highway




With a comprehensive global production and marketing network to support it, Ricoh introduces the Document Highway Concept which champions open architecture and appliance-like operational ease.
