The main difference between the RP152 and RP153 are the number of input voltage terminals. The RP152 has one shared input for both integrated LDOs whilst the RP153 has two individual inputs for both LDOs in order to operate completely independently from each other.
An additional optional feature of the RP152 is sequenced start up. This means that the LDO1 starts up 100µs earlier than LDO2. The shut down feature is also sequenced by using auto-discharge transistors with a different on-resistance level. The auto-discharge transistor is connected between the LDO output and ground and it discharges the output capacitor fast once the LDO is disabled, preventing a phenomenon such as random graphics on the display or sounds from the speaker during the shut-down period.
RP153 is available in a standard version with average current consumption and good transient response, additionally another optional version is available, with enhanced transient response characteristics however with increased supply current level. Each LDO, which is integrated in RP152 and RP153, can be set with a specific output voltage and can provide an output current of 150mA. Regarding protection circuits, an embedded fold-back current limit circuit decreases the output current in case of a short circuit to approximately 40mA, thus protecting the LDO and other electronic parts of the application from damage. For stable operation small ceramic capacitors with low ESR and with a minimum value of 0.22µF can be used. RP152 is available in a regular SOT23-6 and ultra tiny DFN1212-6 packages, RP153 in DFN1216-8 only. Both products are very convenient to use on high density and small circuit boards.
