Ricoh and EFI Launch New Controller for Production Market

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, February 2007 – Ricoh Europe B.V. today announced the availability of the Fiery® EB-135 Print Controller for the Ricoh Aficio™MP 9000/MP 1100/MP 1350 series. Ricoh and EFI jointly developed the new Fiery®-based Print Controller for in-plant and Print for Pay environments. Supporting the more complex printing requirements of today, it sets the standard for performance, security and reliability.

Based on EFI’s new System 8e architecture, EB-135 capabilities include easy printing of Word/Excel/PowerPoint documents through an e-mail client without a printer driver. The Fiery®-based EB-135 provides a new user friendly interface, improved page programming features and new preset scan settings. It has been specifically designed for full integration with Ricoh’s Aficio™MP 9000/MP 1100 and MP 1350 models, as well as their comprehensive range of finishing options.

“Today’s production environments demand technology that can easily cope with the type of complicated print jobs and finishing specifications that are now commonplace,” comments Paul Cripps, MD, EFI Europe.  “Our engineers have worked very closely with Ricoh in order to develop a controller that does just that.  The Fiery® EB-135 Print Controller perfectly complements Ricoh’s robust Aficio™ range and, with the inclusion of our System 8e software features, this is a very powerful combination which further underlines the strength of the EFI-Ricoh partnership.”

“With the EB-135 we offer a choice of three different controllers for our high volume (multifunctional) systems,” says Gerard de Pender, Senior Product Manager at Ricoh Europe’s Professional Products Group. “This means we offer a total solution for virtually every type of production customer, from departmental to centralised environments, and from straightforward to highly advanced workflows. This will no doubt expand the success we are currently experiencing with our high volume systems.”

Keeping pace with the need to provide a more secure document workflow, the EB-135 supports several new security-related features, including enhanced LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) support, and is designed to eliminate unauthorised operation by full user authentication. Additionally, it offers the ability to overwrite data sent through the device utilising the new Secure Erase capability.

The new Fiery® EB-135 comes standard with 512 MB of RAM, a Hard Disk Drive capacity of 80 GB and a fast 2.8 GHz Intel Celeron processor to expedite production.

The Fiery® EB-135 is the latest addition to Ricoh’s advanced range of digital office equipment. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world’s most extensive line ups of printers, copiers, scanners, faxes and multifunctional devices, as well as advanced software solutions.
