Ricoh’s Private Cloud wins ‘Project of the Year’ in Green IT Awards

'Best Cloud / Virtualisation Project of the Year' awarded to the Ricoh and Infosys design and implementation team.

London, May 23, 2012Ricoh’s private cloud infrastructure in Europe, designed and implemented by Ricoh and Infosys has been chosen as winner of the prestigious Green IT Awards 2012 in the Cloud/Virtualisation Project of the Year category. The project team delivered a scalable, flexible and agile IT platform for Ricoh in Europe.  It will remove more than 1000 servers across EMEA and will result in a reduction of 16.8k tonnes of Co2, the equivalent to emissions from 3350 cars.

The Ricoh Private Cloud is a part of the company’s move to centralise its IT infrastructure for all its operations across Europe, with the aim of creating a more efficient IT environment.  It is a critical building block in enabling Ricoh employees and clients to access applications and data securely from wherever they are in Europe with any device. The project is another contributor to Ricoh’s overall environmental strategy where by 2050 it plans to reduce energy consumption by 87.5%.

The Green IT Awards is a reputed forum that rewards outstanding products, suppliers, and projects that have made a significant contribution to improving the IT industries environmental performance.  Amongst the judging criteria is the degree of originality and innovation in green solutions, products and policies and evidence of the positive sustainable impact on the business, its suppliers and its customers.

Ian Winham, CIO and CFO at Ricoh Europe says, “We firmly believe that the cloud sits at the centre of the future workplace. Our decision to implement a private cloud was driven by our need to manage the increased volumes of information; a more globally dispersed workforce and be even more responsive to client needs.   It was also essential that we have implemented the most secure and robust infrastructure without increasing our carbon emissions.  To have accomplished our goals while reducing our Co2 and to be recognised by the Green IT Awards, is a great validation of our decision and the work of the team in making the project a success.”

Ramanan Ramakrishna, Associate Vice President - Europe, Infosys says, “We were pleased to partner with Ricoh on this programme. This award is a true testimony to Ricoh’s infrastructure transformation journey to set up a private cloud for its Europe business to meet their business growth plans and environmental commitments.”
